Adobe has issued a “critical” alert that zero-day attacks are being launched on a security vulnerability in its Flash Player, PDF Reader, and Acrobat products. The alert applies to Flash Player 10.0.45.2 and earlier versions for Windows, Mac, Linux and Solaris operating systems, as well as the authplay.dll component that accompanies Adobe Reader and Acrobat 9.3.2 and earlier 9.x versions for Windows, Mac and Unix OSs.  Read more... It will probably come as a surprise to the millions of people who have already purchased one, but the Apple iPad is just another PC, according to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, who made the comments this week during a recent on-stage interview at the D8 Conference. “Of course it is,” Ballmer told Wall Street Journal tech columnist Walt Mossberg. “It’s a different form factor of PC. It wouldn’t surprise me to see the competition try to eliminate the role of what they’ve had that hasn’t been popular in order to popularize the thing that’s new and fashionable.”

AT&T Wireless is going through some rather confusing changes lately, and it’s making the word “unlimited” sound more and more old-timey every day. It might actually work out to your benefit if you’re an AT&T customer with a data plan who uses the phone to surf some pages, look at some emails and maybe stream a little music now and then. But if you become a new AT&T customer who’s going to use its 3G data network to do a lot more than the typical hey lemme-show-you-something-cute-on-YouTube sort of stuff … then stop drinking that milk, cause here comes the spit-take.

Sprint on Friday launched the HTC Evo 4G smartphone to a chorus of mixed reviews. Some hailed it as the best Android smartphone yet; others pointed out some flaws, both with the device and with Sprint’s 4G network. HTC has said it will fix some of the problems with the Evo by issuing an over-the-air update; the claimed problems with Sprint’s 4G network, however, may be somewhat more difficult to resolve. The HTC Evo offers simultaneous voice and data capability on 4G or WiFi networks.
